The World Chinese Entrepreneurs Convention (WCEC) is an important biennial event for Chinese entrepreneurs around the globe, aimed at providing a platform for economic cooperation and exchanges as well as establishing an economic network linking Chinese entrepreneurs worldwide.
Our Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce of Agusan, Inc. (FCCCAI) delegation headed by our very active President Anecito Bonpin and together with him are Treasurer Jorge Uy, Directors Koumil Kho and Alan Silor. The Convention attracted more than thousands of business leaders from all over the
world.
The 2009 10th World Chinese Entrepreneurs
Convention opened on November 20. President
Gloria Macapagal Arroyo as keynote speaker and
China CPPCC Chairman Jia Qinglin as guest speaker.
Over 3000 registered delegates attended this Convention. The host country Philippines has the biggest delegation with over 1200 delegates, followed by China with nearly 1200 delegates. Other overseas countries have 640 delegates attended, which makes the 10th WCEC as one of the most successful WCEC held recently.
The Convention includes a lot of activities such as Opening Ceremony, World Entrepreneurs Business Expo 2009, Business Forums, Philippine Business Investment Presentation and Gala Night.
During the Business Forums, world renowned econo-
mists, scholars and entrepreneurs shared their precious business experiences and perspectives and insights about the world economy.
During the opening ceremony, Pres. GMA addresses the participants. In her remarks, “the Filipino-Chinese entrepreneurs -- and that means over 90% of the Filipino-Chinese population -- possess a sharp business sense, the keen ability to discover opportunities to offer goods and services that improve lives, the courage to take risks, the work ethic, focus and determination to attain your goals. These are the qualities that have made the Filipino-Chinese crucial to Philippine development and have made them also major contributors to our country’s unprecedented growth over 34 successive quarters during my administration.”
Furthermore, the President says that “The sterling qualities of the Filipino-Chinese entrepreneur are on display even in activities that do not directly create wealth or even in activities that are not directly business. For instance, the generosity behind their federation’s outstanding civic program to build classrooms or the efficiency of the Filipino-Chinese fire volunteers who are recognized as our country’s best firefighters.”
On the afternoon of November 21, 2009, the Convention proper ended after the Closing Ceremony with Vice President Noli de Castro as keynote speaker. Turnover Ceremony came after as the next hosting country Singapore received the official flag from the Philippines.
