HELEN TIU REPORTS
Chamber Newsletter December 2009 Vol. VI No. 12

Happy New Year, fellow Alumni! Thank you so much for your support in our Christmas party held on Dec. 27, 2009 at the TCA Social Hall. It was indeed a night to remember. Not only did we have fun together but we raised P18,464.00 for our Alumni Fund. At least we were able to replenish the P18,788.00, cost of our 1st Alumni project – the newly painted Badminton Court at the TCA Social Hall undertaken by Chou Pai Yu. We sold 136 tickets with a gross of P34,000.00 and the net was P14,736.00 taking into consideration the donation of the siblings Dannie Verdad and Liza Dy. It brought camaraderie among us and not the ‘kamo ra diha, kami ra diri’ attitude. It brought joy to our hearts seeing our fellow alumni in the very place where we had spent our elementary and high school days.

I almost cancelled the affair since we got negative feedbacks during our first try to sell tickets (some would be out of town while others would have their class reunions on the same day). But thanks to the persistence of my co-organizers (my new found sisters) Christy Young and Sianse Lydia Condino, who wanted to push through with it. Even our supervisor in Chinese Language, the ever beautiful, Ma’am Felisa Young, wanted a Christmas get together. She bought 5 tickets for herself and family. I offered to pay for her tickets but she refused. She wanted to contribute to our alumni funds. Thank you for being supportive to all our alumni activities, sianse Felisa.

I would like to thank you the following persons who contributed in one way or the other to the success of our affair:

l. Our emcees, energetic Alumni vice pres./ GPTA president. Engr. Alan Silor, and our TCA Alumni Auditor, the ever sexy and talented Ms Malou C. Gaspar. If you didn’t know them, you would have thought we had hired the ABS-CBN newscasters. They both did a very wonderful job. Malou not only spent her time with us but shared her bountiful blessings by giving away 5 single burner stoves.

2. The prayer and blessing of food was supposed to be delivered by our fellow alumnus, the 1st president of Father Saturnino Urios University, Fr. John Christian U. Young, but as he couldn’t make it on time due to a previous commitment, he was very well represented by his own father, Mr. Crispin Young. As they say, ‘like father, like son. Kung ano daw ang puno, yan din and bunga’. I would like to congratulate Fr. John for having been elected a Director of PAASCU (Philippine Association of Accreditors of State Colleges and Universities). Thank you Fr. John for gracing the occasion despite your busy schedule.

3. Our talented singers headed by my very good friend Ms Anita Go; TCA Alumni past president Henry Te; Pauline Yee; Donna Lim Radaza; and Saul Khe. They were like professional performers.

4. Ms Ma Ida Yu for the Queen’s Command parlor games.

5. Donors for the raffle draws: Ronwood Construction; Incoming president of the Fil-Chinese Chamber of Commerce Engr. Jun Bonpin; Engr. Victorino Balibrea; Leonardo Yu; Terence Yu; Hannah Gumagay; Dr. Jackie Marticion-Ty; Henry Te; Malou Gaspar; and Christy Young. I’m happy for Ms Young since I could sense that she’s following in the footsteps of her father, Mr. Crispin Young.

6. My ever supportive sister-in-law, the slim and beautiful lady, Mary Ann Lim-Tiu, who led us in dancing “nobody, nobody but you” to the amusement of the audience.

7. The five gallons ‘cookie and cream’ ice cream voluntarily donated by the very generous couple, John and Ester Uy with Cell No. 09176281558.

8. Sianse Lydia Condino, Tita Templado, Elizabeth Uy-Astillero and Ms Phoebe Tan (the multi-awarded Business Manager of Bank of P.I.) who took charge of selling tickets and registering the names of our guests at the school gate.

9. Our No. 2 Councilor, Atty. Josephine Marticion-Salise, donated one succulent lechon. Let’s not forget her should she seek re-election.

10. Our adopted TCAeans: Engr. & Mrs. Jun Bonpin, Mr. & Mrs. Crispin Young, Mr. & Mrs. Ewa Go, Dr. & Mrs. Ronald Ang for their untiring support to our organization. They are not Butuanons but they love Butuan. Thanks too, to our former teacher whom we fondly called ‘Manica’ for her beauty, Mrs. Rosalina Go-Khe for joining us.

11. To Batch 1989, thank you for being the largest attendees among the alumni batches. For our Batch 1974, only one of my classmates attended, Mr. Milan Chua. That’s because not only were we classmates but we’re cousins. Thanks for supporting me cousin. Hope more and more alumni will be joining in our activities.

12. To the family of my best friend, Dolly Balibrea. Thank you for being the largest attendees among the alumni families. Happy to see your family in one place.

13. To all those who bought our yellow Alumni T-shirts, thank you. We made a little profit of P1,578.00 for the first batch of T-shirts sold. For those who are interested to buy, please contact Ms Lydia Condino. Let’s wear yellow shirts during our Alumni Homecoming motorcade on May 29, 2010. See you then. Let’s support Batch 1985, the host next year.

14. Big thanks also to my co-organizers, Ms Cristy Young and Sianse Lydia Condino. Without their full support and cooperation, this affair wouldn’t have been possible.

15. Last but not the least, our Lord God for giving us the opportunity to hold a fellowship with our fellow alumni, friends and family of our alumni, and our mentors. To God be the Glory”

I would like also to take the opportunity to thank the family of the late Hon. Chiu See Kiat (whose two daughters, Edita Chiu-Yee and Rosita Chiu-Chua were my classmates in Chinese in the 1970’s) which donated Pesos Ten Thousand (P10,000.00) to our Alumni fund last Nov. 2009.

Hope you enjoy reading my article. I know I can’t write as good as our Editor-in-chief, Mr. Crispin Young. He can very well describe the events, people, etc. Saludo ako sa iyo, Mr. Young. I know marami pa akong kakaining bigas to become a good writer but I am trying my best. To my fellow Pinoy and Chinoy TCA Alumni: Kaya natin pagsamasama. My New Year’s wish is for all to have a Christmas feeling all year round. May God bless us all.
